OUR CAUSE
Everywhere we turn, we’re surrounded by adverts and outlets promoting unhealthy, high fat, sugar, and salt (HFSS) foods. These messages shape our choices, pushing people toward fast food and away from nutritious alternatives.
In Bristol and South Gloucestershire, 58% of people reported seeing adverts for unhealthy products within just one week.
Across the city, there are over 470 hot food takeaways, while specialist grocers remain scarce.
Research shows that just five minutes of exposure to unhealthy food advertising can make children consume up to 130 extra calories per day.
Meanwhile, the statistics are worrying:
Supermarkets and takeaways dominate our streets, but where are the local green grocers, the fresh produce markets, the healthier options?
We believe Bristol deserves better.

Meanwhile, the statistics are worrying:
- 10% of children are obese by the age of five
- 20% suffer from tooth decay
- 62% of adults eat fewer than three portions of fruit and vegetables daily

Starting Local: East Street
We’re beginning our mission right here on East Street.East Street is a vibrant and diverse part of Bristol, but like many high streets, it’s surrounded by fast food outlets and limited healthy alternatives. That’s why we’re partnering with East St Fruit Grocers, a proud local business providing fresh, affordable produce to the community.
By highlighting and supporting shops like this, we’re not only encouraging healthier eating, we’re backing local independence, reducing food miles, and building stronger, more sustainable neighbourhoods.
Our goal is simple: Start in East Street. Build awareness locally. Inspire action across Bristol and beyond.
We’ve created an interactive leaflet that folds out into a poster, inviting people to join our cause. When you fill out the poster, you’re adding your voice to a growing community movement that says:
“We want healthier choices and a healthier Bristol.”
Every filled-in poster represents a commitment, a step toward reducing unhealthy food promotion and increasing access to fresh, local, and nutritious food options.
We’ll be displaying completed posters here on our website as well as in East Street shop windows and public spaces to show community support in action, making the movement visible, one street at a time.
If you are here because you’ve filled out a poster please email: comegetyourposters@gmail.com
